Take part in the campaign to make all tea in Britain Fairtrade. Currently only 10% is Fairtrade. However over 20 million people in the developing world rely on tea for their livelihoods. Many tea farmers and workers have extremely hard lives, which are physically demanding with low levels of pay. On top of that climate change is also having a profound effect on tea growers.
We’ll be giving out campaign postcards to persuade the big 5 tea companies to swap their tea for Fairtrade. We’ll be asking people to sign them so we can send them off. There’ll be a chance to try Fairtrade tea and other Fairtrade products (kindly donated by the Co-op), plus you can test you knowledge with a tea quiz.
At 4pm we are expecting the arrival of a walker from Garstang en route
to Bridgnorth in Shropshire, passing through the Fairtrade towns of
Preston, Wigan, Liverpool, Chester, Wrexham and Shrewsbury.
He will take tea with the Mayor in the Harris Museum cafe.
Come and join us for a Fairtrade brew and lots of free samples (courtesy of the Coop).
Find out how you can help tea producers out of poverty.
